What Should You Look for in an NBN Provider?

As the rollout of the National Broadband Network (NBN) is set to continue, it’s important that you find an NBN provider that will suit your needs. Your current internet connection may not be up to scratch with the new standards, but there are plenty of providers who can help! This article outlines what you need to look for in an NBN provider so you don’t miss out on anything.

But what is NBN, you ask.

Just in case you aren’t in the know, NBN is the national broadband network that will replace old phone lines and give you faster internet speeds. The NBN is being rolled out across Australia, but not all areas have it yet.

What’s your current connection type?

Well, the first thing to think about is your current connection type. Are you on ADSL or Cable? This will determine what NBN options are available to you.

If your home is currently on ADSL, then your best bet is to stay with an existing provider for the time being until the NBN arrives in your area or wait it out and look into getting a new connection once everything’s set up. If this applies to you, don’t worry. Most providers have ADSL plans that are still pretty good.

If you’re on Cable, then the NBN is already here! You can get an NBN connection through your current internet provider or by looking for a new one. If you have no idea which providers offer cable connections in your area, there’s plenty of places where someone will be able to help out with that.

If you’re getting NBN through an existing provider, the next thing to look out for is how much data allowance your plan will have. This can be limited by either a set amount of GB, or on some plans, it’s unlimited (which isn’t always better).

You also want to find out if there are any extra costs that come with getting NBN. It’s not uncommon for providers to charge extra fees if you choose a certain plan or want certain features. Worse, you may encounter NBN scammers!

Finally, make sure that your connection speed is high enough with the right provider. This will vary depending on what sort of things you use the internet for and how often. If they don’t have an option available in their plan that suits your needs, then it’s probably worth looking elsewhere.

Make sure to do your research

A great way to find an NBN provider is by asking a friend or family member for their opinion. If you don’t have anyone who can help, ask on social media if people know of any good providers in the area.

Once someone has given you some information about potential providers, call them up and get detailed information from their customer service representatives over the phone. You should also take into consideration how much data they offer per month because that will determine what types of applications you can use on your mobile device while connected to Wi-Fi.

As you can see, there are plenty of things to keep in mind when choosing an NBN provider. But don’t worry. We’ve got it all covered! If you want help finding the best plan for what you need and where you live, reach out to us!
