Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth (CTY) organizes SCAT for talented and gifted students. It stands for School and College Ability Test and helps students to get qualified for a gifted program. This test is above grade level and tests students’ verbal reasoning and math abilities.
SCAT test is above grade level, which means the standard of this examination is above the current grade level of a student. So, it is difficult and valuable at the same time .

The SCAT examination is divided into three levels, namely;

1. Elementary SCAT
This SCAT test is for students studying in the 2nd or the 3rd grade. However, since this test is above grade level, the examination level is designed according to the 4th or 5th standard students. This way, it measures the ability of the students.
2. Intermediate SCAT
This test is for students currently studying in the 4th or 5th grade. In addition, the level of this examination is set according to the students who are in 6th or 9th grade.
3. Advanced SCAT
This SCAT test is taken by students in the 6th or 8th grade. This examination is designed according to students who are studying in 9th or 12th grade. SCAT advanced is a tad bit more difficult than the others, but at the same time, it is very beneficial; and tremendously helps high-school students.

SCAT Test Paper Divisions!
The SCAT test checks the mathematical and verbal ability of a student. This test is divided into two sections, one is verbal reasoning, and the other section of the paper is quantitative reasoning.
Each section of this paper consists of 55 questions and five experimental questions. Those five questions are not calculated in the student’s score. Before the test, you can start solving SCAT test practice papers; this will help you get a vast knowledge of the structure of the paper and the pattern of questions.
1. Quantitative Section
This section of the examination is to measure the mathematical abilities of the students through mathematical reasoning. The abilities of the students are measured through number operations. This section of the test has multiple-choice.
The problems are focused on measuring the reasoning ability of a student. To score good marks in this section of the test, a student should be good in mathematics and have good knowledge of mathematical facts. Additionally, a student should be good at doing various calculations. Otherwise, this part of the paper can get a bit difficult.
2. Verbal Section
This part of the section is easier than the other, but the students need to be well prepared to solve this part of the paper. This section of the test checks the student’s knowledge about words and checks their reasoning skills. This is set in the multiple-choice analogy, and the student needs to choose the best pair of words. In order to score well in this section of the paper, a student needs to have a good vocabulary and should be good at verbal reasoning and grammar.

This is how the SCAT score is calculated.
· Raw Score
The raw score is calculated by checking the number of the questions the student got right. For example, if the student got 30 questions right out of 50, his/her score would be 30/50.
· Scaled Score
After the raw score is calculated, it is converted into a scaled score. This is done to compare the student’s score with other students in his grade. The scores range from 400 to 514.
· SCAT percentiles
The SCAT scaled score is finally converted into the SCAT percentile, and it helps to check the students’ abilities in higher grades.
