Is Camel Milk good for babies?

One of the core essentials of newborn healthcare is the nature of nutrition that the baby requires through his/her diet. With newborn babies, the parents are on a perpetual journey of discovering the various ways in which they can enhance their baby’s health and welfare. Often, parents are flooded with numerous opinions and take of people when it comes to what they should be feeding their child. One of the popular dilemmas that parents are faced with is the decision of incorporating milk into their baby’s diet.

While some parents choose to breastfeed for longer periods, some often search for alternatives that are equivalent to providing their babies with the right kind of nourishment. Therefore, the nutritional formula for babies is a common option that is looked for when a shift is made from breastfeeding. However, a less commonly explored choice is that of Camel Milk. There are several considerations to be made when it comes to choosing if Camel Milk is the right option to include in your baby’s diet.

Camel Milk, when sourced in a healthy and ethical manner, is often collected organically. Organic Camel Milk, to be specific, is almost devoid of any kinds of added chemicals or a high dosage of preservatives. However, Organic Camel Milk might also not undergo the process of pasteurization. When it comes to the pasteurization of Camel Milk for consumption, there is a debate since pasteurization is considered by many to be a process to ensure that harmful bacteria in the milk are killed. The other side of the coin claims that pasteurization also removes several good bacteria which are beneficial to developing immunity in the human body. While this debate continues, there is no denying that when chosen carefully, the right brands do not incorporate high degrees of chemicals that have been known to be an issue for certain baby formulae. Therefore, Camel Milk can be a chemical toxin-free option for consumption, making it an option for people to include in their child’s diet.

  • The Importance of the Right Time:

Infant bodies are extremely delicate, as they do not have fully developed systems for several bodily functions including the process of digestion. Several organs in the infant body can remain underdeveloped till they reach a certain age, which is different for each child. One of the many positive traits of Camel Milk is it’s supposed protein-dense constituency, which makes it a popular choice among many adults. However, considering the fact that babies might not have fully developed kidneys or the support system to process such proteins, it is generally advised that babies should not be fed Camel Milk until they reach a minimum age of 8 months. Since each baby is different, this age might vary based on the pace of development. Therefore, it is of huge importance to pick the correct moment to incorporate Camel Milk in your baby’s diet, to ensure that his/her body is ready to reap the benefits of the nutritious contents of Camel Milk and does not face any harmful reactions.

  • Overall Health Benefactor:

Any parent would look for options to develop their child’s immunity in a natural and organic manner. According to several claims, with the presence of elements like lactoferrin, vitamins, and minerals, the value that Camel Milk provides in terms of building immunity and overall health, is substantial. Camel Milk also has a comparatively lower content of – lactose which is known to cause irritability, indigestion, pain, or diarrhea for many individuals, including children. Therefore, for people who do not have acute lactose intolerance but are in the mild spectrum of tolerability, experimenting with Camel Milk can be an option to check their tolerance level. If Camel Milk is received well by the baby’s digestive system, there is nothing stopping the parents from incorporating it into their regular diet.

As people are becoming more aware of their child’s health, there are more health experts who are becoming more involved with infant formulas for infants. CLinicians are being asked about the legitimacy and suitability of infant formula made with milk alternatives for their children. One such milk alternative is Goat Milk infant formula.  There are certain claims being made about Goat Milk being less allergenic and more digestible than cow milk.

It is a known fact that breastfeeding is considered to be the basic and standard way of infant feeding, but did you know that it was found that earlier the milk of goats, cows, and sheep were in regular use to feed infants? Among these, the most widely used was Goat Milk. The first important feature of Goat Milk is that the secretion process is closer to that which occurs in the human breast. The casein profile of Goat Milk is closer to human milk than in cows’ milk. Human milk contains β-casein, κ-casein alongside α-lactalbumin, immunoglobulins (antibodies) and lactoferrin. Goat milk’s protein profile is more in line with the casein profile of human milk.

The newborn’s digestive tract is immature, and as such, requires proteins and fats in formulas to be easily digestible. Goat Milk behaves more like breast milk in the infant stomach, forming looser, softer and more porous curds, which assists in digestion.

There needs to be more and improved awareness about Goat Milk for infants among both parents and health professionals, along with the beneficial effects it has for them.

Conclusion:-

Whether it is parents or guardians of a newborn baby, there is always a lot of emphasis laid on the child’s safety and healthy growth. Owing to a number of reasons, such as the mother’s or baby’s health, or convenience, or even personal choice, sometimes breastfeeding is not the most viable option for the infant’s diet. However, since there are no absolutes when it comes to different babies and the manner in which Camel Milk affects them, it is always a safer option to take the precaution of consulting a pediatrician before adopting Camel Milk for an infant.
